It’s been a while since we looked into the printer market – especially the SOHO or advanced home needs segment. The last we looked was at e-Print is that the new revolution to sweep the printing world : What’s e-print all about? continuing on the same theme – I am going to give a teaser on a new segment player – Brother International that has launched a range of printers targeting specifically the SMB (with startups hotting up this space and their need for something that can do a lot more with a price that is a lot less) and also the SOHO (the connivence of operating from home and doing business).
AIO or All-In-Ones have been dominating the printer market for the last couple of years – the offering from Brother in the form of DCP-J105 is a AIO that can Print, Scan and Copy. Printing speeds are up to 11 ppm when doing Black & White and an impressive 6 ppm in color (these are specs – but we will soon be doing a product review with the actual unit here at Techolic). Other key highlights are Wireless LAN connectivity for the printer and also an option of Mobile Print (not sure if this supports AirPrint though).
Brother claims that with it’s proprietary Lamination Technology the new printers that it is releasing into the market are aimed at high-volume and fast-speed printing. A closer look at what the Lamination Technology is all about reveals that the printer’s print head is stainless steel elements for lamination which increases the longevity and also performance of the product. It also prevents the print head from corrosion in the long run. With Piezo Technology it delivers a safer and lower temperature operation which in-turn also results in the print head wearing out less easily. Net-net as an end customer what this all translates is that it minimizes repair and replacement costs.
Speaking of costs – the cartridge can be front-loaded which make replacement of cartridges a breeze. The company specs claim 2,400 page-yield per cartridge which is priced at a competitive MRP Rs.530 only – almost in the same league of refilled cartridge. These super high yield InkBenefit cartridges also enable users to make less frequent ink purchases and enjoy greater convenience. Moreover, with individual ink cartridge system, Brother has given the option for the users to only replace individual colour only when required to avoid unnecessary wastage.
All-in-all, DCP-J105 seems a promising printer on paper – how it fares on the Techolic hands-on review is just a few weeks’ away. Stay tuned!!
