Norton Mobile Security – Complete peace of mind for your Android phone
With the open source and more freedom on the Android platform – you also get a few headaches in the form of malware apps – that can seriously jeapordise your personal information and much more. This is when Norton latest foray into Android platform helps. Norton Mobile Security protects Android smartphones and tablets and also all the versions/flavours of android. A very useful feature that also comes with Norton Mobile Security is the anti-theft protection which allows you to remotely-lock, remotely-wipe, or also configure it to SIM lock/wipe after 10 incorrect password entries – such a peace of mind right?
Norton Mobile Security also comes with web protection which blocks sites that it suspects to be murky/suspicious or could be set up to steal personal information like your sensitive passwords and logins which are stored on your phone. The only grouse I have is that this feature is limited to only work with the default Android browser – but most of us geeks use Dolphin / Opera for browsing and it’s time Norton integrates into these awesome browser’s too. The Liveupdate feature like on the desktop downloads the latest of websites and malware definitions to keep you protected from new threats.
When your phone is stolen or even lost, you have an option to locate, lock or wipe it remotely. The anti-malware protection scan of the phone can be scheduled to scan at a time of your choice and also gives you the option to also scan the attached SD card which is a very good move but during my review I realized that the SD card for some reason takes quite a lot of time and drains up the battery soon too.
The other nice feature is that Norton Mobile Security comes with a call and SMS blacklist option. This nifty feature helps you to add numbers to block from your contact list, phone log or directly input(yes directly too – coz the last app I had purchased on my Nexus One for this feature would only allow you to add from the contact list which was so irritating). Currently you have an option to try it out Norton Mobile Security for free from the Android Marketplace as part of a 3-day trial or also from Norton. If convinced you can go for a one-year complete peace of mind subscription for Rs.599.
